For Writing a Statement of Purpose
The SOP is a student's personal statement and the single most important part of the application.
- Remember that for graduate school, your essay need not be great writing. What the school is looking for is a competently written statement of goals and interests that demonstrates how you think, whether you have thought through this decision to apply, and whether your interests and strengths fit in with the program you are applying to.
- Does your essay have an interesting beginning? This need not be witty, but should persuade the reader to stay with you.
- Be professional yet informal - the tone you would take with your principal or head of department.
- Your sop should have a smooth flow, if it is choppy and abruptly jumps from paragraph to paragraph, your readers will have a tough time keeping up. Make it easy on them - smoothen the transition between paragraphs.
- To provide coaching for language proficiency required by Indian student to pursue higher education abroad.
- The essay should end well. It should leave the reader with a sense of completion? Avoid usage of clichés like, 'i hope the admissions committee finds my application up to their expectations'.
For making an effective Resume
The resume should reflect your overall personality. It should project you as focused individual and reflect your individuality.
- Objective: If you have an objective write about it in approximately 20 to 30 words using crisp clear language.
- Personal Information: Mention your personal details at the beginning of the resume.
- Educational Qualification: List details of your education in reverse chronological order preferably from graduate level onwards.
- Projects: This is a key component of any technical resume List out the details of all the projects that you have executed.
- Work Experience: List out your assignments with various organisations in reverse chronological order (latest experience first).
- Additional qualifications: It could list your computer knowhow and programming skills and other technical diplomas.
- Merits & Awards: Any significant achievements, scholarships could be highlighted.
- Extracurricular: Mention all your community activities, sports, any other activity participation in short and concise manner.
- Resume is your first introduction, get it printed on the best quality stationary.
- Do not write pages and pages for a resume, keep it restricted to two pages only.
For making an effective Recommendation
These letters are recommendations from teacher's/ professor's who have taught you at school/ college. This letter reflects the student's academic potential and ability to successfully complete the degree at the respective School/ College. If you are an MBA student with work experience an employer's recommendation will be required.
The recommendation letters must be Confidential. You must ensure that
- The recommendation letter is typed on the institution/ teacher's letterhead. Each copy of the letter has the recommender's signature in ORIGINAL. The letter is enclosed in an envelope that is sealed (i.e. glued shut). The recommender has signed across the flap of the sealed envelope.
- The first and the foremost thing is to select the right person who can give recommendation for you.
- Make the recommendation sound different.
- Do not use too many superlatives.
- Make the recommendations believable.
- Make sure you match up the assessments in the recommendation with the hard figures that your transcripts reveal.
- Try and talk about aspects of your personality that haven't been covered elsewhere.
- Give the recommendation a structure and flow.
