Federal Self-Employed Persons Program

The Self-Employed Persons Program is open to individuals with self-employed experience in limited spheres of economic activity: cultural activities, athletics (at an international level), or the purchase and management of a farm.

To qualify, an individual must demonstrate:

• Have relevant experience (two years of experience either self-employed or participating at a world class level in art, culture, recreation, or sport activities)
• Have the intention and ability to be self-employed in Canada and to make a significant contribution to the specified spheres of economic activity.
• Meet the selection criteria for self-employed people; and
• Meet medical, security and other conditions.

They must also demonstrate that they can contribute to the Canadian economy, which is assessed based on qualities such as their experience, education, age, language abilities, and adaptability.
